Basics of corneal microsurgery 2026

Take your knowledge of ophthalmic surgery to the next level! Under the guidance of Dr. Guandalini and Dr. Beránek, you will lear corneal surgery using microscopes. Corneal ulcerations are very common in veterinary ophthalmology and their management is almost always surgical. This course will show you the various options and variants of surgical approaches and teach you the basics of corneal microscopic surgery.

10.35 – 10.50 Surgical field, drapes, instruments (MVDr. Matěj Beránek)

11.10 – 12.00 Basic overview of corneal surgery (sutures, needles), microscopes settings, sitting and working on microscope (MVDr. Jiří Beránek and dr. Adolfo Guandalini)

12.00 – 12.45 lunch

12.45 – 14.45 Practical session I. (corneal wound surgery – incomplete wound sutura, corneal perforation – iris prolaps)

14.45 – 15.05 Coffee break

15.05 – 17.00 Practical session II. (superficial keratectomy – debridement, incision, lamellar keratectom, conjunctival pedicle flap)
